The North Course, built in 1993, offers the feel of the old-time caddy course without cart paths. While the fairways of this Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed course slope to bounce balls back into the fairways, the combination of old rock formations and kiawe trees provides a proper penalty for errant tee shots.
The South Course features more water, and in the case of the 16th hole more water than anyone this side of #17 at Pebble Beach could wish. Holes like the 14th with the lava 'backstop' behind the green introduce players to the famous 'lava tingle shot' when one's wedge bounces off the *@&@ black rocks.
