| Maui is panilol (Hawaiian cowboy) country. So there are all sorts of horse rentals, roping schools, trail rides, chuck wagon trips etc. Polo indoors runs from April to June and outdoor polo extends from the middle of August until the middle of October. Games are held at 1PM on Sunday. Two special events, the Oskie Rice Memorial on, what else, Memorial Day and the international High Goal Benefit in October testify to the locals’ interest in horses. There are at least three major rodeos, another named for Oskie Rice, and the Maui Roping Club 808-572-2076 runs a lot of informal contests - they’re a good horse source for riding and other information. |
