:: Description and Basic Information ::
The usual collection of 30 to 40 foot boats out of Lahaina and Maalaea offer charters at about $600 a day and head boat services at about $100 a day. Most troll for Ahi, Skipjack and other larger fish, but the crew still keeps the fish. The water here is a bit more protected than anywhere else save Kona, but still peaks up at times, so a check on the weather is a best bet. If possible, hit the dock and check out the action a day or two ahead. Boats that troll for small species like bonito or barracuda offer more action. Call the Ocean Activities Center 800-798-0652 for bookings or details.

There's very good shore and beach fishing on Maui, and some interesting freshwater fishing in streams, ponds and reservoirs for bass and panfish as well. Bring your favorite bass or trout tackle and check with local tackle shops for special lures and other gear and you can do well. Locals will do some informal guiding too.
