Seven county beach parks offer camping. Lucy Wright Park near Waimea is a good choice. It's $3 a night per person --kids stay free -- with a maximum seven day stay, but the problem is reservations. You need to get a application from Parks and Recreation, 4444 Rice St. Moikeha Bldg, Suite 150, Lihue, Hawaii 96766; phone (808) 241-6660 fax (808) 241-6807 Fill out the application and send it in with a certified check or money order and a self-addressed stamped envelope 45 to 60 days before you expect to arrive.
State Parks require permits that can be requested at least six months in advance. You need a copy of a passport or driver's license for each camper and names of children. Permits are free: Division of State parks, 3060 Ewa Street, #306, Lihue, HI 96877 808-274-3444. |
